My first butterfly of spring

Today, at noon (10 C and sunny) there was a Mourning Cloak butterfly in our backyard, basking on the pedestal of the birdbath. This species overwinters as an adult and obviously withstood many nights of -30 C and probably colder! Drew Monkman
