Male Monarch

Male Monarch

This year’s butterfly numbers have been a little off. I have yet to see any Monarchs or Question Mark butterflies. The ones I have seen are – skippers, azures, tailed-blues, American lady (caterpillars now on Pussy Toes), tiger swallowtails, eyed browns, pearly eyeds and white admirals.  The woodland butterflies , eyed brown and pearly eyed, have been more common since I let my yard go wild. The sedges and grasses have helped. I have not seen as many native bees as last year, although they are around.
