We were serenaded by a Veery (a species of thrush and one of our most beautiful singers), while eating supper on the deck this evening (May 21). It wasn’t till later that we got to see him. We had installed a new raised vegetable bed and my daughter had filled it with the contents of two compost bins. There were lots of worms and other insects which the Veery found irresistible. I got a very good look at him as he was there a long time. It was so nice to have the sounds of the forest brought to our suburban backyard.
