Despite sub-zero temperatures, the PFN had a highly successful bird outing this morning. The bright sun and lack of wind made birding conditions very pleasant. With the heavy frost, leaves were raining down all morning. The highlight of the outing was a flock of 16 Sandhill Cranes flying south of the Lakefield Sewage Lagoons. We also had good views of two other Sandhills flying just above us. Other birds of note included Hermit Thrush, Northern Pintail, Greater Yellowlegs, Yellow-rumped Warblers, American Tree Sparrow, Pine Siskins and Common Redpolls.  The excellent birding skills of 16 year-old Luke Berg provided a big boost to our bird list!
