leucistic American Robin (Peter Clark)

leucistic American Robin (Peter Clark)

We have seen a white-headed American Robin in our yard several times and thought it was quite unusual.

(Note:  The robin is “leucistic” (reduced pigmentation as a result of a recessive gene). Birds like these seem to be turning up with increased frequency, especially in robins, cardinals, grackles and chickadees. It would be interesting to know if a trend is being noticed elsewhere.D.M.)
