mining bee – from Heather-Holm’s “Pollinators of Native Plants”

We have our first native bees out. I think they are mining bees. I have scanned a picture of the bee from Heather Holm’s new book “Pollinators of Native Plants”. It is the bee in the middle shot of the top 3 pictures on the right. It is the one on the white,  open flower with the word “Male”

on it.They are using the crocuses that the former owner of the house planted and have spread a lot, which is fortunate for the bees. This week we should have our native woodland plants up. I can see some Trout Lilies already.
